I’ve spent over twenty years on Bourbon Street, and Halloween is one of the nights I look forward to most. It’s second only to Mardi Gras when it comes to costumes, energy, and beads flying off a balcony. People descend on New Orleans for Halloween because the French Quarter is historic, and it’s genuinely haunted. There’s nowhere else in the country quite like it on October 31st.

Why the Cheapest Ticket Is Usually the Worst Deal

The mistake people make on Halloween is the same one I watch people make every New Year’s Eve. They chase a crowded party, thinking more people means more fun, when the whole point of a balcony ticket is the balcony itself. If you’re packed into a room shoulder to shoulder with nowhere to actually get to the rail, you might as well be standing in the crowd on the street. You paid for a view you never get to use.

At Cornet, we intentionally keep our tickets limited. Our guests really want to be on the balcony, and that only works if we don’t oversell it. It’s the same approach we take with every ticketed balcony party we run, Halloween included.

What Makes Cornet’s Halloween Party Different

This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday, October 31st, and we’re running two separate parties. One runs 7 to 10 PM, the other 11 PM to 2 AM. Both include an open premium bar and a full Halloween buffet, along with a DJ keeping the dance floor going all night. Some people choose to attend both parties, so they have the creature comforts of seating and restrooms and being above it all for the night. You can come and go as you please. Cornet is located in the heart of the French Quarter so you have an easily accessible place to retreat from the crowd, have a seat, grab a bite, shake it down on the dance floor, watch the spectacle from the balcony, freshen up without a long line for the restroom, grab a fresh beverage “to go” and wander back out into the crowd if you are so inclined.

Guests move freely between the dance floor and the balcony, and that back and forth is where the real fun happens. Beads are flying, the DJ has the dance floor packed, and then people head back out to the balcony to see what’s happening on Bourbon Street. It’s the best of both worlds under one ticket.

And the costumes. Our guests take Halloween seriously. You’ll see genuinely incredible costumes on that balcony, the kind of detail and creativity people spend months planning. Being on the 2nd floor means you actually get to see all of it, the whole street full of costumes, instead of catching glimpses over someone’s shoulder in a crowd. At the same time, the 2nd floor doesn’t put you too high above the street to really see and interact with the crowd. A 3rd floor or rooftop is simply too high to make eye contact, which is where the real fun is with tossing beads.

The View You Can’t Get Anywhere Else

Being above the crowd on Cornet’s balcony is the ultimate VIP experience on Halloween. You’re not fighting through a packed street to see anything. You’re looking down at all of it, the costumes, the energy, the madness of Bourbon Street, without being in the crowd.

That’s what makes it worth choosing one balcony with a real cap on guests over a party that oversells the balcony. You didn’t come to Bourbon Street on Halloween to be stuck in an overcrowded party struggling for balcony access.
